Why turn-based RPGs quietly rule the phone

There's a reason turn-based combat keeps thriving on mobile while flashier action games struggle. It doesn't need precise inputs. You tap a menu, you commit, the game waits for you. That's ideal for a device you're using with your thumbs on a train.

Playing through Emberhold Saga reminded me how forgiving the format is. Get interrupted mid-fight? No problem. The battle just sits there patiently. Try doing that in a twitch action game.

The other advantage is battery-friendly bursts. You can do one fight, lock your phone, and continue an hour later with no loss. Modern RPGs that save anywhere respect how people actually play on the go.

If you've been sleeping on the genre because it feels dated, give a good one a proper evening. The depth is still there — it just wears a comfortable coat.
